The revival of the customs of the marriage in Pelion constitutes the prominence and the end of the cultural events. It is an attempt which began in the 1960s by a group  of people of our villages in order to preserve and transmit the customs of the marriage in Pelion, like it used to be. Ever since the revival, the marriage takes place the second fortnight of August. Many people from Pelion take part in it.

Once the marriage was real, because a couple of the region chose to get married traditionally. Another important fact is that people that took part in the revival of the wedding eventually fell in love and got married. This revival was pretty lucky for them. At the central square of the village “Melina Mercouri” and in front of the bride’s and groom’s rooms, which are prepared for this cause and provided with old traditional appliances, the couple gets engaged, because in Pelion the marriage always begins with an engagement.

The marriage is organized by the groom’s and bride’s friends. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays relatives and friends deal with the marriage portion. The whole week they deal with the preparation of the marriage. On Sundays the people give the groom a shave.

Fish night in Agria-Pelion

It is an event which has been performed with a great success for 45 years. The events that are realized every year in Agria have a great history. In 1964 the Cultural Association in Agria enacted a manifestation called “Fish night”, in order for Agria to have a festival, like the other villages. This event has borrowed facts from fishing villages in Sicily. It takes place a Saturday night in August and you can eat fish soup, fried fish and kalamari and you can enjoy traditional dancing. During the first years of the manifestation, the event took place at a central place in Agria, while all restaurants had their own orchestras. With the reform of the new seafront the manifestation was transferred there. Nowadays the festival lasts more days and you can enjoy many events such as concerts, performances of traditional groups exhibitions of painting and photograph etc. Recently there has been an improvement of this festival by the participation of famous artists in Greece. It attracts thousands of people every year.
